Description
Augustus Kollner, born in Wurttemberg, Germany, was a prominent 19th-century Philadelphia musician, etcher, engraver, and lithographer that started his career in Germany, working as an engraver of book images and animal portraiture in Stutgart. He was working in Paris during the 1830s prior to coming in to the USA in 1839. He resolved in Philly in 1840, developing a studio as a portrait painter. When picture paint was not successful, he began work as a lithographer.
The publication of his representations of iconic American spots, including Philadelphia, started in 1848 and proceeded up until 1851 as part of the influential series “View of American Cities” by Goupil, Vibert & Co.
Adhering to 1851, Kollner established his very own company that concentrated on producing tags, promotional materials, maps, and illustrations of city and natural landscapes.
